The difference The team complete 3 Peaks
Team Pensord complete the Three Peaks
Team Pensord completed the Three Peaks challenge on Saturday in impressive style!
We arrived in at Snowdon at 1.15am and after no sleep were kitted and ready to go in a dark and very windy car park at 4.15am.
We were placed in an intermediate group and our guide predicted if we could get up and down in 4 hours we’d have done well. We set off as the 4th group - over took two and caught the first group and achieved a time of 3hrs 38mins!
We were promoted to one of two Elite groups and after a bacon roll and cup of tea (very welcome!) we travelled to the foot of Cadair Idris.
It was now over 80 degrees and the hottest day of the year – the sight of the peak in the distance from the car park filled us with dread – so stocked up with gallons of water and bags of determination we set off. Again 4 hours was the target taking into account the heat and we managed to complete in 3hours and 4mins.
At times the heat was unbearable but with nowhere to take shade it was a case of head down and get up and get down as quickly as possible – and what did we do when we got down – we lay in the sun!!!!
Off to Pen Y Fan where we were greeted by wives and girlfriends – the amazement on their faces when we were the first minibus to arrive!
I don’t mind saying that it was just sheer determination that got me to the top of Pen Y Fan – the heat for the first part was stifling and then by Corn Ddu the wind was horrific. The trudge to the top was head down, grit teeth and hope you had enough left in the tank. Our arrival at the peak was met with more than one tear and man hugs all round!
Pen Y Fan was completed in 1hr 54mins, which considering the lack of sleep, heat and earlier exploits was nothing short of amazing!
£5,705 raised for Cancer Research Wales – A big thank you!

The Pensord 6 – other wise known as Darren Coxon, Huw Evans, Norman Chase, Chris Pulley, Stuart Barry and Alan Waits – completed the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Snowdon, Cader Idris and Pen-y-Fan on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year!
We managed to raise an amazing £5,705 for Cancer Research Wales, so a big thank you to everyone who supported us!
