HISTORY

• Founded in 1969 by the Billboard Company of America (to produce the weekly publication Record Retailer, now Music Week).
• Ownership changed a number of times.
• June 2003.  Tony Jones completed a management buy-out of the business which by then was struggling and severely under-invested.  Supported by the board which included Commercial Director, Darren Coxon, and Finance Director, Graham Lambert, the team embarked on a significant investment programme.
• 2004.  Business makes first annual profit for some years, and grows by 15%.  Further major Presshall investment.
• 2005-2009.  Profitable growth and significant investment continues:
o 2005.  Further investment in Pre-Press and the Bindery.  Business becomes a flag carrier of Agfa’s Apogee Portal web based proofing system delivering significant benefits to customers.
o 2006.  Installation of third 8 unit B1 perfecting press.  Sales growth since the MBO of over 50%. 
o 2007.  Installation of 5 colour B2 press with coating unit, specifically designed to deal with covers, together with a replacement polywrap mailing line incorporating the latest technology and added value options for publishers.  Profits up by 50%.
o 2008
 Further Bindery investment with installation of a latest technology replacement Perfect Binder.
 Investors in People status awarded.
 ISO14001 certification gained, together with chain of custody for FSC®/PEFC certified paper.
 Launch of industry leading Digital Editions service.
 Winner.  Western Mail/University of Glamorgan Awards: Welsh People Development Company of the Year.
 Winner.  Printing World/British Printing Industries Federation Excellence Awards: Company of the Year (companies with more than 100 employees), and Improved Financial Performance.
o 2009
 Pensord celebrates its 40th anniversary.
 Certified to ISO 9001:2008 (the updated ISO 9001:2000 standard).
 Installed energy saving Powerstar equipment to reduce costs and our carbon footprint.
 Updated Pre-press software to the latest generation Agfa Apogee Portal, incorporating StreamProof for improved hi-resolution on-line proofing.
 Pensord becomes the inaugural strategic partner for IPAC (Independent Publishers Advisory Council).
• 2010.  Darren Coxon leads management buy-out with Karl Gater, Operations Director.
 Further investment announced post-MBO with replacement 8 colour perfecting press incorporating the latest technology enhancements (due for installation in January 2011), and new Pre-press plate imaging technology to be installed in November 2010.
 The business records its best-ever 6 months of trading in terms of both sales and profits.
 Investment in a Duplo 205VA UV coater
 Redevelopment of the Prepress department and investment in a Screen 8800z CTP engine.
• 2011.
 Investment in an additional Screen 8800s CTP engine
 Investment in a Heidelberg XL105 with Inpress Control and Autoplate Loading replacing an SM102 press
