Pensord triumphs in national awards

Pensord’s double Gold was achieved in the Printing World Excellence Awards 2008, organised jointly by the sector magazine and the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) – picking up both the Improved Financial Performance award, and the big prize, the Company of the Year award for companies with more than 100 employees. The awards recognise the best business practice in UK print.

Pensord was in a shortlist of two for the financial prize, and was the only magazine printer in a shortlist of five for the company of the year, beating off competition from throughout the printing industries. It marks a great year for the printer, which this summer celebrates five years since their management buyout.

This is not the first national award for the sheet-fed printer. In 2006, Pensord was presented with the Turnaround Award in the Excellence Awards in recognition of the achievements made since the MBO.

Pensord Chief Executive Tony Jones led the management buyout five years ago, and was in London with nine of his 130 plus colleagues to receive the accolades. He said: “Five years ago Pensord was a struggling, loss-making and under-invested business.  Belief in our workforce gave the confidence to undertake an MBO.  It was a high risk strategy, but we have always believed in our people.  Five years on, and Pensord is a market leading, progressive and profitable business with a bright future. Winning both the Company of the Year (more than 100 employees) and the Improved Financial Performance awards at this week’s BPIF/Printing World Excellence Awards is a tremendous achievement and testimony to the hard work, commitment and loyalty of Pensord People, demonstrating, once again, that Pensord People really do make a difference.  So these awards are very much about them, and for them”.
