Investor in People accreditation is not something that is given lightly, and there are a number of milestones and tough hurdles to overcome before a company can qualify as an Investor in People. Hurdles that prove too challenging for some.

Yet in our case, we have always sought to invest in our people, to broaden their skills and enhance everyone’s understanding of how our business works. Gaining Investor in People status was a natural progression for us and viewed simply as recognition of our enlightened approach having established:

• The Business Improvement Development Plan
• The Employee Forum to encourage ideas from all areas of the business
• The performance development reviews to establish the development needs of every member of staff
• The induction programme to ensure fair treatment for all
• The Pensord People Development Academy to develop latent potential for progression within the business
• The Management Development Programme which identifies the qualities that make a good Pensord manager, measures every manager against that criteria and aligns individual training programmes to ensure those levels of excellence are met at every level of management

All these initiatives have been set up to give our people the chance to shine at work, and be given every opportunity to progress their careers.
